Product Sourcing:
When it comes to sourcing a product for review, I will usually either purchase and item personally or reach out to a supplier requesting a sample for review. Many suppliers are supportive if they are confident in their product, appreciating the value of greater exposure.
I am sometimes sent a product by a supplier which I may include if the product fits planned content and I believe will be of interest to you, my audience. The product needs to be worthy of a review and I always make it clear to the supplier that they cannot influence or be involved in the content in any way. It is not in my interest to review inferior or poor quality products and therefore as you might expect many product offers are politely declined.
Any sponsored videos (paid for reviews) are clearly stated as such so there can be no misunderstanding.
Sometimes a supplier will provide a link to the product or the supplier which I am happy to include in the description. Sometimes I will be provided with an affiliate link so I can earn a commission on sales and this helps to support channel costs but never at the expense of an honest review. There is no cost to you and in some cases discounts can be obtained via the link or via an included code.
If a product I have reviewed is available from Amazon I will often include an Amazon link in the description. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you purchase a product or service with the links that I provide I may receive a small commission. There is no additional charge to you.
Replying to Comments:
I really appreciate the feedback in the comments - I find it a source of knowledge and inspiration - so thank you to all of you who take the time to contribute. This is not just for me as the creator, it is a valuable source of information for all readers of the comments. I have recently found that if I continue to respond to all the comments as the number of videos builds, it takes significant time away from being able to produce new content which would be very counter productive! So my aim is to read everything I can and reply when I can, after each video goes live for the first few hours at least, and beyond that when possible. I'll see how that works out 😊

Thanks for the video , spot on ! Just ordered the Victorinox Fieldmaster, after a long search for the "perfect knife" , I also have the Leatherman wave and a couple older style Victorinox knives. When backpacking at older age , every gram counts. But also you want something that's robust and easy to hold in your hand, hence micro tools become more of a gadget than really useful. What I don't get is black coloured knives, these are very hard to find when you drop them in the dark in the grass. Maybe a reflective logo could be a solution so at least you'll be to find it with your torch. I really like the quality of Victorinox and these knives take a fair bit of abuse and stay sharp.

Thank you for making your videos. This; and the other two that you’ve linked, are by far the best travel related videos I’ve seen. The thorough analysis, the detailed descriptions without unnecessary information, only pertinent stuff, and proper testing, is unmatched in my experience. From someone who has travelled a lot and always struggled with keeping things lean, I am so appreciative of this video and you in general. Been watching your videos recently and I think I’ve never found someone’s videos so well aligned with my needs. Also, your way of thinking is clear, and sharp. So grateful for you :)

As far as UK friendly tools I have some comments as many look at the Bond for this reason. Besides the Bond consider: In the UK a blade-less multitool seems like it would be appealing. I mean a bunch of locking tools and you can just carry any non- locking knife you like maybe a SAK Compact if your tool doesn't have scissors for example or a SAK Walker if your multitool doesn't have a saw, or a SAK Waiter so you can open a beer or bottle of wine without getting a bigger tool out... There is still a tool-less Rebar and there used to be a tool-less Fuse or get a SOG and just remove the knife, replace it with something else if you wish as they sell individual impliments. If you could find a Leatherman Leap it allows you to remove the knife and is lightweight... Also there was a Leatherman Kick that had no locking blades including the knife and some (few) had pocket clips (sold separately). It just had screwdrivers, a knife and of course and plier head but it was light. Speaking of old tools if one could find a PST, PST 2, Sideclip, or even a Gerber MPT (copy of PST) they'd all work in the UK I believe. So I hope I gave you some UK friendly ideas to ponder...

Greetings Sir I have been a loyal victorinox user since I was Scout in Venezuela (1981-1984-85?) I still have them... QUESTION: I have been having issues with the ability of the scissors to cut... Do you have a video on how to sharpen the scissors or it may be an "issue" with the nature of the scissors...( manufacturer issue that I am unaware of) Thank you so much for reading my post and any advice you may provide. Best tegards

Maybe I'm not the target of SAKs but I think they are overhyped. I owned two Victorinox SAKs during last 25 years. It was great fun to got my hand at one when I was teenager, but now... Both knife and tools are much worse than dedicated ones. It's hard to keep it clean when travelling by foot trough mountains. The only function that SAK serve for me and my wife know is an emergency tool. And only during car travels, when tryveling by foot they are dead weight. I would be happy to read how other people use them. Maybe I'm just thinking about this tooll from totally wrong perspective.

I've been really disappointed with Rovyvon. I originally had the A8 until the plastic loop at the bottom which holds the keychain snapped and broke off meaning I lost the device. Decided to switch to the A4 ProTi version, more simple but with a stronger construction I was satisfied I wouldn't lose this one. However, the battery life is dreadful! I always put it into the lockout function to stop it accidentally turning on but every time I go to use it, the battery is dead! Completely defeats the object of having a handy backup in your pocket at all times when it's constantly dead. I did try sending an E-Mail to Rovyvon's Customer Service but got a bounceback. So I think I'll look at getting the NiteCore instead now and giving up with RovyVon. I already own a couple of other NiteCore products and have been really impressed with them.

I dont normally watch these kind of EDC type videos. I tend to see them as fairly repetitive and too focused on the fetishization of stuff as oppsed to skill building. However, I clicked on the video because you look a lot like one of my favorite professors from college, and I was feeling kind of nostalgic. This video was great. Everything was well though out. Even though my kit would be a little different I really like you approach to yours. And that hacksaw handle is fantastic. I'm a union electrician in the States, and we have a tool list with the tools that we need to provide for work. Hacksaws are on the list. They're never used because band saws are so much more productive, but we still have to have them. A holdover from the 80s I imagine. It forces everyone to have bags bigger than they need or want just to accommodate the saw. I think that handle can be my work around though.

Yes, I agree Jon. Victorinox is moving away from the core SAK fans. The XLT was discontinued together with 38 models in 2023. The current SwissChamp XXL is not a new model. It's simply the XAVT without the electronic screen. The XXL for CHF349 comes in a poor quality cheap looking cardboard box, It used to come in a luxury watch type box. In the Swiss Press Carl Elsener was saying that moving forward because so many countries in the world are turning against knives, that his team would be developing a SAK without a blade. How stupid is this ? I think in 20 years time the SAK will be Made in China and there will be very few models. The Victorinox Brand is not looking after the SAK long term fans. Note that all Victorinox back packs and luggage are Made in Indonesia. Victorinox lanyards and other small accessories are not made in Ibach.

Victorinox is not a good make of Watch. They can't compete with the likes of Tag Heuer and Omega etc etc. No way. And with Suitcases the brand leader is Samsonite, not Victorinox. There are Victorinox Suitcase Two Star Reviews, so they mustn't be very good. With fragrances, people want Boss, Lacoste, Armani. Victorinox the knife brand is Broken, possibly beyond repair.

A big Victorinox SAK fan, but I purchased a pair of their standalone scissors a few years ago. The handle fell off and before that the blades misaligned after a month. I replaced them with a pair of Fiskars scissors. Same price, but Fiskars was far superior in feel, usage and they look and perform like the day I bought them. I have lost a little bit of trust in the Victorinox brand.

12:00 I see that you as a child never got taught to use a pair of scissors with your thumb and the middle finger, its something I'm glad I learned early on and is now totally natural to me. Gives me a much more stable grip and makes it easier to guide the scissors if you have to cut a curve.

I would dump the idea of a single specialized tool like a corkscrew or a Philips screwdriver. as for example a knife blade is used for many uses, and often the back edge of a knife too. thus its good to have 3 tool uses on each pull out metal pice, for me the beauty of a tool is its functionality. thus if you use colour on the handle BLUE is very functional because if you drop a tool in nature you can locate a blue colour fast. or even part reflective mirror finish Crome that the sun reflects on. where as draping a red knife in a meadow of red flowers its hard to locate. with instability in the world with global currencies and inflation, such well made tools even if there very small, means a store or consumer has something they can always resell. or like a traveler can always sell or barter a Victorinox. as to why its still better to have 3 small knife sets with different tool combos, then to have one big multi tool. good tools well designed and useful do not seem to go down is price, yet are sort of like gold, so just as a silver coin collector, at least a stainless steel tool gadget does not devalue like money does, while the problem when traveling with knifes is you can not take them on the plane with you.

Only a guy that would worry about how his phone case looks or would switch it out for special occasions would be got dead in that hat.

I'd say go for the Vulpis in M390 if you use the blade a lot & want something that can go longer between sharpenings, and their existing tool selection isn't an issue. Big steel upgrade.

Wallet: John Light: A Toss up. Both have features I like and dislike. Knife: Neithet. Prefer other knives. Must haves include both bottle opener and a cork screw. (I like beer and wine.) Key Carrier: Again, neither.

I use the wingman as my daily during the summer months. Got it for about $30 many years ago. My only complaints are the bad wire cutter and trying to sharpen the serrated part of the blade. I use an old gerber suspension the rest of the year. I used to have three of them, but lost one to airport security…

All the Brits watching and buying, aren't you a little worried it will be taken by the police if caught carrying? I have been looking at getting one with the thought of keeping it through the years due to the warranty and quality, but if the police take my Wave I wouldn't bat an eyelid, but if they took this I'd be cheesed off. I normaly only carry multitools when camping and hiking as personally have seen this as a good enough reason to carry locking blade

Yes, I would only carry if I had a clear reason to do so
